Prototype: In the nineties, RhB had lots of travelers, but only ancient coaches.
16 new coaches were bought. They come from PA Schindler, Altenrhein, who made similar coaches for other railway-companies
too. It is the 4th generation of new vehicles and got the abreviation EW IV (Einheitswagen IV). The doors close automatically and
the high roof makes theses coaches look different from the older ones.
Ten coaches are about 2 metres shorter as the normal ones, because of the tight curves on the Bernina-line. They were first coloured
red with a brown ribbon along the windows and changed their colour into red during 2002.
Six long coaches were bought for the standard lines of Rhaetian Railway.
All vehicles were set in motion during 1993 and today they are a very important part of the rolling stock of the company.

Prototype: The rising of the Bernina-Express led the RhB to order some new panoramic coaches. The windows of these are rounded into the roof-part. The exclusive view, in combination with an aircondition and small tables at every seat, makes the wagons very attractive. The wagons came into service during the year 2000 and startet first with the shown red colour-scheme. As a standard, 6 coaches are coupled together for the Bernina-Express. You will find the wagons on the Bernina- and on the Albula-Line. |
